1932 Canada's Tour to Japan
Canada's first international match took place in Japan in 1932. The 32-man Canadian squad sailed from Vancouver on the Empress of Canada on a two-week long voyage, via Hawaii, to Japan. In preparation for thier games the players trained aboard ship and in Hawaii. They played seven games over three weeks losing to Japan 8-9 in the first international and 5-38 in the second. Ernest Pinkham played wing on the tour, but was injured for the first test. He tied as top scorer with seven tries and scored a hat-trick in one game. The black and white pictures are from his album. He recived his cap 78 years after he earned it. When Mr. Pinkham died in 2010 at age 102, he was world's oldest international rugby player.
